Photo: Norwich Castle: completed c1121; now Norfolk's premier museum.
Brian Edwards was a Norwich man through and through. He loved the city of his birth; one of the great medieval city's of England - a place steeped in history. One of his great pleasures was to wander off at the weekends, camera in hand, and take pictures of places familiar to him. In so doing, he was, in effect, 'making' history; recording the sights of the city as he passed through. Brian died in November 2005, and this blog is dedicated to his memory.
As he would have wished, it is very much a living project. It is here for you to share in: for his family and friends; for local historians and citizens of Norwich; as well as for interested 'tourists'. As this blog develops, you will be able to see the city through Brian's camera. Although, I will write commentaries to accompany his images, Brian will be your guide (so to speak). I will let him lead the way...
Thank you ~ Colin
A TRIBUTE TO BRIAN WRITTEN BY HIS SON, KEVIN:
'The following photo's were taken by the late Brian Edwards (1933 - 2005) and passed on by his family. A loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandad who was proud of Norwich - A Fine City. He was born in the city centre and and lived all but three years of his life in Norwich. He had a fascination of the names of roads and historical places in the city centre, and often questioned family members about the names of pubs all over the city (he enjoyed a pint in many of them). We hope these photos give you as much pleasure as they did our Dad. I am sure they will stimulate debate and questions by many of you as they did in our family - Thanks For The Memories.'
